Our Pillars

These are the things that drive our business and set us apart

Sovereignty

The word ‘Sovereign’ means acting independently, without outside interference. In the context of Australian industry, it means a company that is Australian-owned and has no interference from countries outside of Australia. Control is a key element of sovereignty. Through increased control, sovereignty can help Australia to build in-country capacity, improve self-reliance, and strengthen resilience during the most challenging of times. It means, as a country, we are less reliant on foreign countries and supply chains. It also means important assets and intellectual property is kept for Australian eyes only, which is important from a national security perspective.

Economic retention

OSG is committed to retaining earnings in Australia, supporting Australian businesses first in Procurement, and paying our share of Tax.

Enhanced Capability

OSG is committed to continual innovation to drive enhanced capability.  We will continue to recruit and develop the best talent; we will innovate and be early adopters of new technology; and we are focused on delivering outcomes for our clients.

Veterans

OSG has a strong connection with Veterans. We are committed to supporting serving Defence members and Veterans throughout their Defence career, transition, and well beyond.

Indigenous

Did you know that just under 20% of the OSG workforce is Indigenous?  We’re commited to Indigenous Australians by supporting economic participation through Employment and development opportunities, encouraging Indigenous Enterprise, deepening connections with local communities where we live and work, and supporting the reconciliation journey.

Diversity

Being Sovereign doesn’t mean that OSG isn’t progressive or multicultural.  In fact, OSG employs staff from over 101 different ethnic backgrounds, which makes us an incredibly diverse organisation. We are inclusive, and believe that diversity only makes us stronger. We proactively support people with disabilities.  Some key stats are below:

Christopher’s other senior roles in Canberra included as head of DFAT’s Economic Division and the Office of Trade Negotiations, and as Australia’s APEC Ambassador, Senior Agricultural Trade Negotiator, and Ambassador for the Environment. He also headed the policy team in the Prime Minister’s Department which delivered Australia’s successful year hosting the Group of 20 in 2014. Christopher’s most recent overseas posting was as Australia’s Ambassador to Iraq from 2015 to 2018. This was a particularly challenging period given Islamic State fighters had occupied large parts of the country. This assignment required Christopher to work closely with Australia’s defence forces and national security agencies. Christopher is currently Chair of the Australian Committee of the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (AusPECC). PECC members include all the major economies in the Asia-Pacific region.
